CAM4 Moderator Interview with Cuz Red
It’s always great when we have a CAM4 moderator stop in for an interview. They’re a huge pool of knowledge, and they’re always willing to help out the CAM4 community. Today we have Cuz Red with a TON of advice for models and anyone who wants to moderate. Even if you’re just curious about how moderating really works, I highly recommend reading this interview.
Hello Cuz :) how are you today?
I am feeling very good, thank you! I have just been visiting with some friends on CAM4, staying in touch and having a few laughs. As always!
Tell me something about yourself – who is Cuz Red?
I am a small business owner, living in northern California. I am a former gentlemen’s club DJ and manager. I like to think of myself as an easy going guy that really enjoys making people smile, laugh and have a good time when they are with me! I love women. I do like the term “gentlemen perv”. I give complete respect to women, but I do enjoy finding the kinky, sexy, playful, fun side of a woman. That is where CAM4 comes in. I think CAM4 provides a safe, healthy environment for anyone to turn on their cam and put themselves into sexual situations that they may not normally be in. And I like cats. lol.
How did you discover CAM4 and why did you decide to stay?
I first saw CAM4 one day almost 4 years ago, after a friend and I were talking about how the adult industry had changed because of the Internet. Particularly, the gentlemen’s clubs that I had worked in. I was interested in camming and saw it as the next evolution in live adult entertainment. I looked at several cam sites and really saw CAM4 as the one that had something very special to it. This site has a certain honest and real feel to it. I had really only ever been on the site a few times and one day stopped in a room and noticed the girl was just starting her broadcast and that this was her first day. I chatted with her and saw she was shy but, very sweet, very nice, had an amazing smile and laugh and really wanted to make this work. That had a big appeal to me. That I wasn’t chatting with a professionally trained model, I was talking with a person that was a little unsure about what to expect but, she was just being herself. I told her, you are so gorgeous and if you just keep your smile going and guys see your personality, I think you will do very well here! The model I am talking about is icecreamxx6 and now when I get the privilege of moderating for her or any time I see her at the top of CAM4, I always get an extra smile remembering that day. She is now a big reason why many men log on to CAM4!
You are one of the most well known moderators on CAM4 – share the memory of your “first time”.
Well, I’d seen moderators in rooms and noticed how helpful they can be to a model. It looked like a very fun thing to do! One night 9 months ago I was in the room of the model now known as _Affection_. Her chat had a lot of guys begging her and demanding that she show something. I told a couple guys to show some respect, tip her and you’ll get to see what you want! She sent me a PM and said thanks for being so nice so I joked with her and said I’d make a good moderator, huh!? She smiled and put me on as mod and I instantly enjoyed it. It was interesting to see how the chatroom changed. I saw how the chat room affects the tipping. The next day I became a CAM4 Gold Member and spent the following month watching how moderators create really awesome chatrooms and successful shows for the models. What I found was an amazing “cammunity” of people that were more than willing to help out with any advice or questions that I had. I still watch and chat with a lot of these people:
What was the funniest moment you’ve had on CAM4?
This is a hard question, there have been so many funny moments! I have a bit of a twisted sense of humor so I had to laugh one time when I saw a girl accidentally squirt on her own face! I know some are thinking, “How is that even possible?”, and I am telling you it is! The model laughed about it and it was all taken as just good spontaneous fun!
I think one of the funniest things I have been a part of modding was on New Years Eve and had been enjoying some adult beverages with the model and someone wanted her to use her hula hoop and take off a piece of clothing every time she dropped the hula hoop! Well, she put on about 10 layers of bras, panties, shirts, shorts and skirts! Everyone was tipping her to keep trying to see how long she could keep the hula hoop going! She had enjoyed quite a few drinks so she was laughing and dropping the hoop and another piece of clothing every 30 seconds!

Do you have any advice for performers who decide to team up with a moderator?
Make sure the moderator you choose is doing it for the right reasons. A mod should be there to serve your best interests, not their own. Keep good communication and a sense of teamwork with your moderator. Let them know how you like the rules of your room enforced. Make sure they are not abusing the moderation controls. Keep an eye on your ban list and make sure there are not names on there that you would rather not have banned. Sometimes it can be a mistake, other times a mod may have banned just because they don’t like someone or are jealous.
A good moderator should already have a sense of what type of comments that need to be silenced, kicked or banned. Top tippers do not mean they will be the best moderator. In fact, choosing a moderator because he tips well can present some other problems. Pick someone you can trust.
And what do you think viewers who’d like to become moderators should know about this role?
My motto is “Moderate in moderation”. What I mean by that is you shouldn’t crowd the chat with comments or be kicking and banning so much that no one is in the room. It’s ok if you are responding to someone or the model but, don’t become an over chatter. Keep your presence known but don’t take attention away from the model.
An important thing to remember is that there should never be a time when you or the model are begging for tips. Instead, get the room excited about the goal. I purposely stay away from using the word “tip”. You see it so much that some naturally ignore any comment with the word “tip” in it. Sometimes I’ll say “All tips appreciated”, but I prefer to say things like “tokens for show”, “show your love”, “tokens show appreciation”. The reason is because it reminds people that this is a show. This is a performance and if you want to see the show it is going to take tokens and hitting the goal!
Do not abuse the moderation controls. It depends on the room and what the model wants but, generally I only ban Skype spam, poo requests and just rude, insulting chat. You see, one of the things that makes CAM4 so great is that they give anyone, over 18 years old, the privilege to join the site and chat for free. Some appreciate that, others abuse it. I never understood going to a room and demanding or begging the model show or do something for free. I see that they don’t appreciate the free chat so, I take the privilege away. CAM4 gives you a front row seat, I will move you to the balcony. I’ll admit it, I am a silencer. I like rooms big and active, yet profitable. I try to keep the chat clean for good tippers. I know how it is, I hate when I have tipped and now some guy is on the chat begging the model to come look at his dick, or “pm bb”, or telling her to do something and they have tipped nothing. Disrespect the model and the tippers, you will not be in the room any longer.
Also, a lot of people don’t know that good moderators support the model in many ways behind the scenes. We promote on Twitter. I retweet many models and I really like to tweet where I am. CAM4 twitter pages, all over the world, give such fantastic support to the models! I really appreciate that they see what I am trying to do and retweet me regularly. It is a great, fun way to bring instant attention to a room! Some of us moderators also make profile and bio pictures for models. I like to be very involved with the room, staying familiar and even friends with the regular tippers and anyone that is fun and respectful.
What do you like about CAM4 and is there something you don’t like?
The 2 things I love the most about CAM4 is the the amazing amount of help and real friendship that is given by the #camily and the coaches here. I look forward to attending Nikki Night’s open forums and coaching sessions every week. I want learn and absorb everything that I can about this business of camming. In class, Nikki and her roomful of people that are a huge wealth of information. I cannot stress enough how important I think it is to get involved, meet new friends and learn great show ideas. As for the second part of the question, I don’t like that there is no free pizza, tacos or beer. It’s ok, I understand, it’s just that I like them all a lot and they are best when they are free! Other than that I really love CAM4!

Great interview cuz! I agree with what you said about keeping the focus on the performer. To moderate well is a pretty selfless act as the point is to avoid anything that distracts the room (including thanks for moderating) :-P Anyway, my hats off to you and the moderate mods for making cam4 a better community!

I just read your interview on cam4. I completely agree that’s how moderators should moderate. N
Unfortunately, most of them do not. For all the wrongest reasons is how they moderate. Jealousy is most reason I think. Empty pockets is another. In fact, I just got banned from one of tour regular room today for no reason. Moderators in love and models without dictionaries are a major problem on Cam4. To have them control the ‘ban’ button is like a 4year old being able to drive on the Autobahn.
Yes, that is why I say to find a moderator that wants to do it for the right reasons. That is the hard part. Jealous moderators don’t work out well.This is going to sound devious and maybe it is. A good mod can use jealousy to put tokens on the total and gifts on the wall. People are motivated to tip for many, many reasons. Jealousy is definitely one of them.
